Simple Instructions to Get Your Email Working Again

It can be really frustrating when your email crashes! That’s why we’ve posted this email quick-fix. Enjoy!

Microsoft Outlook email setup

  1. Go to Tools > Email Accounts.
  2. Select “View or change existing e-mail accounts” and click Next.
  3. Double click the email account in the left window.
  4. Set up as below:
    • Your Name: (enter whatever you like)
    • E-mail Address: (enter your whole email address eg: “you@yoursite.com.au“)
    • Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.yoursite.com.au
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.yoursite.com.au
    • Username: (enter your whole email address here)
    • Password: (enter your usual password)
    • Log on using…: (leave this box unchecked)
  5. Click “More Settings…”
  6. Select tab “Outgoing Server”
  7. Please make sure the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” is ticked.
  8. Now click “Advanced” tab. Change this setting “Outgoing server (SMTP): 25″ (change 25 to 26).
  9. Click “OK”
  10. Click “Test Account Settings” (should show “completed” on all tests)
  11. Click “Next” tab at bottom then “Finish”.
  12. Close & restart Outlook.

Outlook Express email setup

  1. Go to Tools > Accounts > Mail
  2. Create new account or double click an existing email account to edit (usually only one is there).
  3. Go to the second tab > Servers, make sure the following settings are correct;
    • SMTP: mail.yoursite.com.au
    • POP3: mail.yoursite.com.au
    • Account name: (your whole email address eg:
    • Password: (enter your usual password)
    • Please make sure “My Server Requires Authentication” is ticked
  4. Close & restart Outlook Express.

Other email settings you may find useful

Check these settings in Microsoft Outlook for each PC:

  • Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Send immediately when connected (check this box if not already done)
  • Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Send/Receive… > Schedule an automatic send/receive every “1″ minute (change to this setting for quick response times)

Note: Outlook will not go to check for new mail until these selected amount of “minutes” has expired. Thus if this is not set at all, or set to some bigger number, it will delay receiving & sending emails. If you log out before the selected time & log back in later, it starts all over again. You may never get your mail!!
